FAQs

What, exactly, does ThemeRack provide?

ThemeRack is a premium, monthly service that builds, sells, and hosts website solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. All ThemeRack themes (templates) are built in-house and not available anywhere else. At the moment, all our themes are built using the WordPress content mangement system framework, meaning our clients can maintain their websites without needing to know any HTML knowledge in a simple, yet powerful format. All our themes come with hosting and unlimited email accounts. In short, ThemeRack is a total package for your website needs.

How much do you charge for the service?

ThemeRack costs $70/mo for non-ecommerce and $85/mo for ecommerce sites. Other options are available such as custom design and development, page development, logo development, updates support, email blast management, etc.

Who is ThemeRack for?

ThemeRack was built for the small and medium sized businesses in mind. Custom web design can be a barrier to entry for businesses trying to break into the online marketplace. With ThemeRack, you can have a powerful online business for much less than the cost of a good custom website.

What is a theme?

A theme (or sometimes called a template) is a website interface that is pre-designed to fit multiple businesses. It is different from a custom designed website as it is not made specifically for one particular company.

What is a content management system?

A content management system (or CMS), defined by Wikipedia, is a computer application used to create, edit, manage, and publish content is a constistently organized fashion. Basically, it is a backend interface of your website where you can control your content without coding knowledge. All of the code has been pre-installed and only takes someone with simple word processing knowledge to edit. If you know Microsoft Word, you’ll understand a CMS. We use the open source CMS called WordPress which we consider to be the best all-around, and most widely used, CMS on the market today.

How quickly can I be up and running with a site?

The setup of the server and email and installation of WordPress and your purchased theme can be accomplished in a couple of hours. We will walk you through the initial set up of your content and show you how to use the CMS. The time it takes to add your content is dependent on you. Any modifications of the theme depends on the complexity of the changes required but can usually be done within a day or two.

Do you sell just the themes without your hosting service?

No. All themes are available only with the hosting plan. It is a total package solution.

Can I purchase my domain name with ThemeRack?

If you do not already have a domain name, we can help you out with that. We can also offer suggestions depending on your business model.

What if I want a totally custom solution?

Our custom development site, Rudy Interactive, is made for such a request.

Can I do e-commerce with your themes?

Yes. Some of our themes are made specifically for e-commerce. However, we can add e-commerce on any theme we offer. Certain limitations exist with the WordPress CMS for e-commerce and is not meant for every e-commerce need. Depending on the complexity of your e-commerce, a pure e-commerce CMS might be more suited for your needs. Contact us for more information.

Do you require any contracts to use ThemeRack?

No, you can use ThemeRack month-to-month and cancel anytime. However, themes, once purchased, are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Do you offer discounts for multiple sites?

Yes, we offer a $10/mo discount for each additional site up to $40/off. For example, one site will cost $70/mo. The second site will cost $60/mo ($70 + $60), the third $50/mo ($70 + $60 + $50), and 4 or more will cost $40/mo ($70 + $60 + $50 +$40[x]).

Is it easy to switch themes on the same site?

Each theme and each site is setup a little differently. We try to develop each theme so that you can purchase more than one if you want and change the look and feel with just a push of a button. However, after any customization work, this may not always be the case. Also, some themes will not easily swap with another. Not to say that it’s not possible and note entirely all that difficult, just that it may take more than 1 click.

If I cancel my subscription, can I still keep the theme I purchased?

No. The ThemeRack themes are meant to be used on the ThemeRack servers. You are not actually purchasing the theme, but rather purchasing a plan. Cancelling service means forfeiting your theme.

Why should I use your service?

ThemeRack is more than a site selling websites. We act as online business consultants, helping you build your site, setting up your server and emails, offering advise on most any topic you may have concerning your site, and managing your site if needed. We really don’t know of any other service that provides this level of commitment to our clients at such an affordable rate.

How much do you charge for custom work?

Depending on the complexity of the job, we will offer a proposal for the project if it is large. Otherwise, our hourly rate stands at $95.

Do you plan on offering themes with other CMSs?

Right now, we are focusing solely on WordPress. We are considering building themes with Magento for e-commerce in the near future.

Can ThemeRack do XYZ?

Contact us directly on your specific needs and we’ll let you know if ThemeRack is a good solution for you.

Do you have references of companies using ThemeRack?

Absolutely. Even though we’re new, we do have references. Contact us and we’ll connect you with current ThemeRack clients.

Do your sites work with Internet Explorer 6?

IE 6 is over 8 years old now. It came out before the iPod, before 9/11, before I started losing my hair even! And besides, IE 6 is the worst browser to hit the market. It’s like staring directly into the sun – highly inadvisable. In fact, if you really want to do yourself a favor, dump IE altogether and go with Firefox. It’s faster, easier to use, has more features, is better built, and won’t cause permanent retina damage. So, I suppose a long answer to a short question is no, we do not develop our sites to work with Internet Explorer 6.
